The Guernsey County Historical Society was founded in 1948 and began operating its museum at 218 North 8th Street in Cambridge in 1963. The organization is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation.
Board and membership meetings are held monthly at the museum building, but vary in date and time to accommodate members’ schedules and avoid conflicts with other special events. Check our Facebook page for the current upcoming meeting information.
For many years Historical Society member and active local historian J. C. Shively lent his personal website, guernseycountyhistory.com, to the Society for use as its primary web presence. In 2023, the Society created this newer website with the corresponding “.org” address to more fully showcase its extensive Flickr photographic collections and additional research resources. The “.com” site established by Mr. Shively continues to operate under his curation as the Society’s legacy website with many interesting features and historical postings.
